AURA
What is an Aura?
An aura is a colour-specific energy field that envelops all living entities, such as humans, animals, and plants. It manifests as an energy that emits from a few inches to several feet around the body in an oval shape and can fluctuate with one's thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
Auras are acknowledged in various traditions, including yoga and Hinduism. While each tradition may have its distinctions, they commonly concur on the concept of the aura being an emanation of the body's energy field.
Spirituality and Auras
An aura is a crucial element in many spiritual practices, serving as a mirror to one's current state of openness, receptivity, and emotions. We transcend our physical forms, and through understanding our auras, we gain profound insights into ourselves and others. A stressed and depleted energy field is evident in one's aura, just as a sense of fulfilment and confidence manifests as positive radiance. Our aura acts as a guide through life's trials, indicating areas for growth and healing.
The well-known saying, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience," encapsulates this concept. Developing the ability to perceive your aura elevates your spiritual journey to new heights.
Can we call an aura, energy field?
An energy field is a measurable phenomenon, such as the Earth's electromagnetic field, also known as the Schumann resonance. Although auras cannot yet be measured in this manner, those who claim to see them describe auras as unique energy fields surrounding each living being. Often, an aura is referred to as a vibrational frequency or simply a 'vibe.' It appears that humans are adept at sensing each other's vibes. Feeling drained after spending time with someone may indicate that the individual has a low-frequency energy field. Conversely, feeling energized and uplifted after an encounter suggests that the person's aura is likely strong and vibrant.
Our aura consists of various energy fields, also referred to as energetic bodies. Each of these fields is associated with one of the body's seven main chakras. These layers of subtle energy interlace and contribute to the composition of our overall aura.
The 7 layers of the aura
- Physical aura plane: this represents our physical health and connects to the root chakra. It is the closest to the body and is the easiest to see with the naked eye.
- Emotional aura plane: this part of the aura links to our feelings and connects to the sacral chakra. It often changes in colour depending on fluctuating moods, and can appear muddy if you’re experiencing emotional stress.
- Mental aura plane: this plane represents our state of mind and the ego. It connects to the solar plexus chakra and will often produce coloured sparks when you engage in a mentally stimulating task.
- Astral body aura plane: the astral body represents our spiritual health and our ability to give and receive love. It links to the heart chakra and if it’s healthy, it glows with a vibrant pink/red colour.
- Etheric aura plane: moving further out, the etheric aura plane is the home of psychic abilities. It connects to the throat chakra and is the home of pure potentiality and authentic self expression.
- Celestial aura plane: this part of the aura is where our intuition and dreams are held. It emanates from the third eye chakra. It is the home of unconditional love and bliss, and glows in a rainbow colour when healthy.
- Causal aura plane: the last and most expansive aura plane is a combination of all other layers and radiates from the crown chakra. It stores all information about our soul purpose and has a beautiful golden glow.

All major, minor, and lesser chakras are points where energy flows into and out of the aura. This energy is linked to consciousness, enabling seeing, hearing, feeling, sensing, intuiting, or direct knowing. Opening the chakras to increase energy flow contributes to better health. Conversely, illness results from an imbalance or blockage of this energy flow. In essence, restricted energy flow in the human system can lead to disease, distort perceptions, dampen feelings, and interfere with the full experience of life. (Brennan, B.A, 1987)
